About
Meet the DJ
Howdy folks! I'm Rodeo Romeo (or Romeo for short) and I'm a college DJ at North Carolina State University's very own college radio station: WKNC 88.1 Raleigh. As a DJ, I curate set lists, host on-air programming, and even make my own promotional art each week. I'm inspired to create radio content by my country roots, anime (specifically cowboy bebop), and my love for community, both musical and geographical :^)
About the Music
Artist Statement
I believe that people use art created by others as a means of identification for the self. When I make a set, I curate many songs that each represent a fraction of me. I piece them together until an abstract of who I identify as forms, like completing a jigsaw puzzle of my ego. I artfully express a dazzling version of myself through the music I connect with as well as through my DIY-style promotional art and radiant radio personality without ever having to reveal any intimate details about myself other than what art inspires me while still giving others a look into who I am.
Value Statement
In an era where automated streaming and Big Radio dominate the industry, underground tunes and the DIY aspects of music are lost. Rodeo Romeo's sets on WKNC 88.1 deliver hand-curated playlists straight to your ears through your own radio. Discover the best indie beats and support small artists by tuning into college radio, and jumpstart your Wednesday mornings with WKNC's own cowboy, Rodeo Romeo!
The accessibility of radio allows me to reach a large audience that will mostly remain invisible to me. With such a diverse consumer base and little to no personal communication, I prioritize bringing my listeners new, exhilarating music while also providing them with accessible and entertaining digital experiences. I strive to keep my music electrifying so that my audience can jump start their mornings as they tune in to my set, no matter who they are or where they are.
